Auchenree Beef & Lamb
Auchenree Beef and Lamb is exclusively from animals that have been bred, born and raised AND grazed at Auchenree, which has been farmed by four generations of the Bathgate family.
It is an 800 acre traditional mixed farm. They run a herd of 40 pedigree Luing beef suckler cows, a sheep flock of over 500 cross bred ewes and grow spring oats plus grass and clover to feed our livestock. The farm and the meat products are certified as organic by the Soil Association.

The produce remains within Dumfries and Galloway until it leaves the Food store/shop. All of the Livestock is sent to Lockerbie abattoir and the meat is then butchered and vacum packed by Frasers of Stranraer before it is delivered to Auchenree for labelling, storage and sale.
The Luing cattle breed was offically recognised by an Act of Parliament in 1966. It was established by teh Cadzow brothers on the Island of Luing, which lies to the South West of Oban in Scotland.
The breed was developed through teh cross breeding of Highland Cows with Beef Shorthorn Bulls to produce hardy, docile maternal cows that could produce easy fleshing progency that would thrive on the hill and upland pastures of Scotland.
The beef produced by these cattle is a rich, deep red colour with tremendous marbling. It is very tender and tastes like beef should - beefy!!!
