John Mellis Apairies

John Mellis and his wife have been producing quality honey from their farm in the heart of the borders for over 20 years. He has over 200 hives which at the height of the season will contain over 50000 bees each. He makes four different styles of honey.

Their bees produce a dark nutty Spring Honey, a delicate Summer Blossom, a terrific Heath and Wildflower blend and some very special Heather honey.

Scottish Blossom Honey

A blend of honey from various floral sources, harvested throughout the summer with a mild sweet flavour. Will include nectar from Clover, willowherb, lime, wild raspberry, bramble and many other sources. Available runny or set.

Scottish Spring Honey

Gathered in April and May from trees and meadows, this dark honey with a rich nutty flavour comes from Hawthorn, Sycamore, Chestnut, wild Cherry and Dandelions. Unusual and very good.

Scottish Heath and Heather

In July the hives are moved to the heather moors and initially the bees collect from the bell heather, clover and other flowers of the upland pastures. Latterly they gather from the distinctive Ling heather and the resulting blend is a honey with an extremely good flavour.

Scottish Heather Honey

Well known for it’s strong smokey flavour with a distinct bite. The connoisseurs choice.
